Acrylic and Fabric Markers on Hi-top shoes. Estonia. Spring 2018.
Time to drop another pair of shoes in the blog! It's hard to follow up that ceiling mural from my last entry, so I will try on a smaller scale 😅 These FlyTraps were part of my Spring fashion in 2018. These are also converse-knockoffs, but they lasted much longer than the last pair you saw. I didn't need a new pair of shoes until 2020! Speaking of that, I spent much of 2019 growing myself professionally outside of the art world. I will get into more of that below.
Expanding from the last pair, I still wanted to keep a simple color scheme. Blues, greens, and in-betweens 😉 Goes well with the warm gray fabric of the shoes. They ended up looking kind of elegant even though the subject matter is a bit offsetting. Definitely drew on my tattoo roots for this project. I especially had fun with the smoke coming out of the bottle. Gives it a sort of art nouveau vibe. 😁
Usually I work on both shoes at the same time, adding layers to each shoe while the other is drying. For this pair though, I did the skull a bottle from start to finish. For the second shoe, I was looking for ideas to go along with the existing theme. I had been on a trip to some Estonian bogs, and they have little carnivorous plant there. Eating mosquitos mostly. Being a fan of exotic flora, I decided to go for the fly trap and flies. I wasn't sure at first if the flies would go well with their mushroom counterparts. Somehow I think it all balances well.
During my professional career, I have been on a few business trips. This was before all the covid restrictions of course! I was participating in workshops to implement new logistics processes in some countries around the world. These shoes are world travelers!
Lisbon, Portugal
Johannesburg, South Africa
Sofia, Bulgaria
Duisburg, Germany
I walked in these shoes through Vilnius, Lithuania on a road trip with my buddy George. I met a cool photographer there from Germany named Tobias, and he asked me if he could snap this photo 😊 He is on instagram, https://www.instagram.com/achisto/
But as mentioned before, I spent a lot of time working and not a lot of time painting in 2019 (and part of 2020). It feels good to be back in action. I chose to start my blog with photos and paintings from my past few years, to build it up with things I have done. Most of all I want to share it with you, for those that are reading this. Thank you!
So far this is my 9th blog post...Number 10 will begin with my recent projects in 2020!
